Seeking help with dining room floor please.

I have good floorboards in my dining room which I would like to expose. My problem is approximately 1 metre square of the floor is concrete. This is in the entrance to the kitchen which is in the middle of the wall. Would a rug over the concrete look out of place; or can someone suggest a better solution? Many thanks.

Hi. Just a thought but do you need/want the wall lights? Could you not just change the ceiling lights and add floor lights? We had wall lights in our georgian house and removed them all rather than trying to find decent replacements. I know wall lights are back in at the moment and particularly for industriał style but it may be the easy option. If this works then there are lots of fantastic ceiling lights around at the moment

Ok it seems I got cut off due to the smiley face I put! Grr.. Basically what I was saying is that we were thinking about farmhouse/cottage style table (small but extending), but I'm worried that it may be too much.. Also we rushed and bought retro industrial type of lampshades (same for both areas), and also our floor isn't wood colour, but it's white/grey kind of washed wood, so I'm afraid the whole look wouldn't look so good with the white floor! What do I do?? Also my hubby didn't like it as much as I did...and I was so hopeful that we finally got a perfect middle.. Anyway, if I swap something for something maybe that would help..? All I want is a nice and cosy, elegant and sophisticated but also comfy and relaxing home..what a headache :) But thank you so so much for every single idea, this really helps to think!!! Thank you!x

Hi Jay, we agree that a golden oak could clash with your walnut worktop. But think you could still go for an oak with lighter or ashen tones. The shades below are understated so would be great for flowing through multiple rooms too. And of course, as they're lighter floors they'd help to keep your spaces feeling nice and open. Hi, a warm, pale grey might work. I would keep wall colours soft, light and neutral to maximise light and add colour with wall art.
