If you want to create a feature wall, I would use wallpaper for most impact. I think paint wouldn't be enough. I'd paint the whole space in soft light grey as a base - e.g. Valspar Whisper Soft or F&B Blackened and put bolder wallpaper on the feature wall with a hint of purple from your curtains. It can be a pattern or plain textured. If you want to use paint on the feature wall, inject a contrasting strong colour (such as ochre) to the space to balance the scheme out and make it more dynamic. You can flow that colour on cushions, art and accessories. Tell the story through the colour scheme.

Hi, thanks for responding. I am starting with everything new so whatever colour i choose for the wall I will blend in everything else with it. I am thinking of multi coloured rugs and cushions. I am planning on getting a huge clock that is silver coloured so the contrast wall should look ok. The window frames are black as is the door furniture. The walls are so light you'd hardly call them grey although they are. The doors are natural oak and the darker grey wood I think surrounds the doors beautifully. Of course it is personal taste but I love it. A photo is attached, this is my bedroom yet to be furnished.

If you are willing to keep magnolia, I'd go for a bold graphite sort of grey colour as a feature which could act as a backdrop for the colourful sofas. Grey is very versatile and works well with many coloured sofas. Alternatives if you are looking to paint all the walls and get rid of the magnolia - paint all walls a light-mid grey. This works well with the existing orange couch and would also work well with a green or yellow couch - paint all the walls in a soft grey bar the feature wall which could be painted a Dark Teal or blue. This would be create a nice backdrop for the orange sofas and green sofas if you choose to go for green.

I agree that brilliant white is too much of a contrast especially since the kitchen cabinets are a grey with a brown undertone. So I would search the Farrow and Ball site for inspiration paying particular attention to their explanations of the colour. Personally (having now seen the space) I like All White, Strong White and Cornforth White to complement the blue in the living area and blue kitchen accents such as a rug/ blind/ accessories. Given how contemporary the kitchen is I don’t think it will suit painting the cabinets and personally I think a soft white glass splashback or grey or bronzed mirror would be a cleaner look than the metro tiles (although I think the metro tiles will also go).
