Hi. Could you put them in a U shape (one long against each far wall and then the other at 90 degrees to those two)? Or better yet, bunk beds that are built into the wall or on a very solid frame, like one of these?

Could you not get a bunk bed where the bottom bunk is as interesting as the top? I think I would prefer the bottom bunk in this pic, if I was still a child of course! This is from roomtogrow, they have a few which are reasonable. Or alternatively 6 months rotation! Or look for the ones with built in storage in the stairs etc to save more room, unfortunately the best ones seem to be US companies, I do agree bunk beds can sometimes be overbearing but the extra floor space would be a bonus?

You could split up the sitting room into two rooms (would probably mean boarding up the fireplace). Or you (the parents) could have the middle bedroom - the French have done quite a good job with all those mirrors. The bedroom by the kitchen could then become a snug/TV room, and you'd only have to accommodate a dining table in the existing kitchen.
