Living Room Direction:

So, having lived in my house for over 18mths it's the living room's turn for an overhaul. I’ve ‘done’ the big stuff and am now starting to think about the more decorative pieces. This is where I need your help :)
So to give some background, here's what I’ve done:
-redecorated so now have white walls to compliment the original 1970’s parquet.
-bought a deep brown (almost black) chesterfield sofa which has is finally in place, horrah!
-got new window dressings in place
-got 2 new decorative table lamps that match very well with the colour of the curtains

* A note about the window dressings - these are white voile roller blind for privacy along with heavy stripped chenille/velvet curtains at either end - I was a little surprised when these turned up, although they say they’re silver to me they’re more of a taupe/mink colour, perhaps more silver in daylight but definitely taupe at night with artificial lighting. But i still really liked them so want to make them work.

So although this is an open plan living/dining room I want to focus on the living side for now and this is what I feel I need help with:
-Area rug
-Side tables to go each side of the sofa
-TV/Media unit/stand
-Art work

Ideally I want this room to feel modern, stylish, luxurious but to remain relatively minimalist. I tend to be quite ‘matchy matchy’ and like to see an established colour scheme, which seems to be white, brown and silver/mink at the moment but I feel it definitely needs a hint of brightness somewhere!

So as I said above, I feel I have the bones in place but need some help fleshing things out.
I have some ideas/thoughts for each of the bits I need help with so will address each individually in following posts.
