I've just seen this thread again, my last comment was in January...but here goes although you may have finished your new kitchen by now. I'm just in the throes of doing mine. Wooden floor is a lovely choice for a cold climate but I wouldn't do wooden worktops also, too matchy matchy and think of all that work maintaining them. Here in Spain marble is definitely a thing of the past as it is not tough enough, and granite has been taken over by Silestone, although the new thing is Neolith/Dekton which is very thin but super tough (bit pricey though). My advice is neutral, neutral, neutral for the stuff that costs the most money, adding colour with the cheap stuff, ie paint, blinds, etc. Bottom line: it's your kitchen so don't listen to any of us, choose what YOU like. Hello cnvt, For the size of the room... I'd suggest a 2 or 3 seater in the red you like.. It will go with the armchair you have. Then add 1 or 2 armchairs to match.. Place the sofa to face the fireplace and the two chairs could be placed with space between where the current sofa with brown throw is.. This means you would have a feeling of flow as two chairs take up less room... The striped armchair then could stay where it is and as Minnie said you can dress everything with warm, neutral shade cushions and the curtain fabric if you can find it for some cushions, is a good way to compliment the look... A creamy throw or two on an arm of a chair and sofa could be good.. With the darker colour it's important not to fill the room with large furnishings.. The two current sofas are really too much but because they are light they are not so heavy looking, so for this reason I'm suggesting 1 sofa and possibly 2 chairs.. : ))

You said you wished the sofa was darker. I take that to mean that there isn't enough contrast in the room for your taste, and maybe not enough drama. Certainly a rug will help to separate the sofa colour from the floor. Have you considered making the wall dark, if the sofa isn't? Paint the wall behind the sofa in a dark colour (maybe use the aubergine), then add brighter, lighter paintings (or a mirror). This would give the room the definition and drama that maybe you feel is lacking. This room has purple not aubergine, but maybe it gives you a feeling of how a dark wall could look.
