Hate the colour of my new sofa!
Yes, that tiny swatch of fabric looked good but when it arrived in giant sofa form, I wasn’t happy. Of course we are stuck with it so I need start making it work rather than wait for my husband to spill something on it!
In reality it’s not an awful colour, it’s brighter and a colder grey than I was expecting which makes me think it looks abit cheap (which unfortunately it wasn’t)
I’m thinking that it might help if I change the wall colour (Dulux Chalk Blush 3 a warm grey). The room is East/West facing and quite dark so the lights are on most of the time. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me choose? Any colour change would also have to go with the kitchen as it’s in the same room.
We’ve just moved in so the room is quite bare we need a pic above the sofa, a coffee table and maybe a rug?
Also any cushion size recommendations are welcome. I don’t know how may or what size/ colour to use!

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI came across your question as I was finishing a blue mood board! Given you have a picture and cushions in indigo blue you can draw your scheme from it. Indigo and generally dark shades are very hot at the moment and can really give character to a space. I wouldn't worry about the light as you have huge windows. Your floor is amazing too. So I would either paint or wallpaper the wall behind the sofa in in dark blue, highlight the sofa with a few more cushions, maybe introducing another colour like yellow, and accent the scheme with natural materials such as leather and wood to warm up the grey.

Comments (3)For the cushions you've chosen, I would buy modern sofa with clean lines in gray colour. The best place for sofa is the wall opposite the chimney breast and you can build the shelves on each side like on one of the pictures. Comments (8)The Luxury of made to measure bespoke furniture is you get to choose exactly what you would like your sofa be from fabric, colour, type of cushion filling to the exact dimensions you require. I also think the other advantage is you can also custom the sofa to fit the space in which it sits to maximise space. I would in my experience say that if you prepared to pay a certain amount for a sofa that there isn't that much in the overall cost but find that you may actually get a bit more for your money for instance a lovely feather foam wrapped cushion against a hallow fibre dacron seat cushion, sprung seat section instead of webbing that kind of thing. If you find a style why not ask for a comparison cost you maybe pleasantly surprised. Comments (33)When I had my engineered wood floor installed, the skirting did not have to come off, they undercut the skirting boards instead. It means the skirting is very slightly narrower but the job is very neat, professional and doesn’t have to have beading which would cheapen the look. I seriously can't see anything wrong with it. It's perhaps that your expectation was different from how it turned out, but it looks really good to me. I love the space and what you've done with it. Floor, kitchen, sofa... all looks gorgeous to me.
If you want to warm it up, you could add some burnt orange or mustard accessories. I'm also thinking that a round rug would be a cool and unexpected addition.
Another thought: if it's a rather dark space, perhaps a mirror above the sofa, instead of art?

5 years agoGray colour is great to work with! I got Casablanca multi rug from irug.co.uk and picked colors from rug for accents. You can go with some colors or with 1, or 2.
Be sure that rug is big enough for sectional and purple chair.

5 years agoOlive green looks great with grey and wood flooring, may be worth considering some colour on the wall and duplicate it with large plants just outside.

5 years agoA large rug rectangular or square rug would in my opinion cover way too much of that beautiful floor. A round rug will add some pizzazz and will soften all the rectangular lines.

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoI personally think the only thing wrong with the sofa is the cushions, It looks like it needs twice as many and larger so that come up higher on the back. I think It's the lack of larger cushions that's cheapening the look. It just needs to look a lot more sumptuous.

5 years agoI think your sofa is fine. You have a neutral base, you can virtually use any colour to go with it, when you fancy a change it doesn't cost a fortune to go with a different colour.
As suggested get a rug with some colour in it and take your lead from this.
I have a grey lounge suite, 2 settees , 2 chairs and a footstool.
I have chosen purple and green at the moment.
I have a plain grey rug also so when I fancy a change of colour it's easy .
I remove the green curtains in summer and use whites voiles.

5 years agoYou said you wished the sofa was darker. I take that to mean that there isn't enough contrast in the room for your taste, and maybe not enough drama. Certainly a rug will help to separate the sofa colour from the floor. Have you considered making the wall dark, if the sofa isn't? Paint the wall behind the sofa in a dark colour (maybe use the aubergine), then add brighter, lighter paintings (or a mirror). This would give the room the definition and drama that maybe you feel is lacking. This room has purple not aubergine, but maybe it gives you a feeling of how a dark wall could look.
