Kentia Palm SOS - gardener advice please!!
Comments (2)That's a surprisingly small Kentia Palm. Kentia's do well in low light so I shouldn't see it being a lighting problem. As with most plants and I've had it myself with a Kentia is over watering. It's very easily done especially with such a large pot. The pot could be too large and it may grow better in a smaller pot. Because it wouldn't have a largely developed root system such a large pot would hold it moisture every evenly and just sink to the bottom drying the plant. I think the best bet is to repot it. Add grit or sand if you have to aid drainage. Be sure to look at the roots when you do this and cut out any you believe are rotting. With Kentia's misting is very important or the leafs do get unsightly, so do this daily. A saucer with pea gravel or just having the pot raised off it filled with water should help create a more humid microclimate. I would hold off feeding the palm for now until you see any improvements and if worse comes to the worse treat yourself to another lovely gloriously luscious huge Kentia. Look online and you can have it all done in a self watering pot that will be largely maintenance free. Best of luck to you and your Kentia Palm!...See MoreGarden advice please
Comments (7)I'm sure leaving the fences on the sides would be fine. They look really good, don't you think? If you just paint the back fencing including the trellis in a very dark colour it will blend into the perspective and will give you a great background for... anything really. Maybe a gentle colour (combination) for your shed, with possibly the window frames a different colour, if you're up for it. :) Some more fairly substantial planting will certainly soften things as well....See MoreGarden advice please
Comments (1)Hello, That looks like a very nice blank canvas! I do offer garden design online services. I will need you to send me measurements (that you will take with the help of guidelines that I will send you - and judging by this picture it will be a very easy task to measure this one), lots of pictures and answer a questionnaire. Then I can send you the design by email. Please contact me if you want further information about the services (deborahbiasoli@gmail.com). Looking forward to hearing back from you, Deborah...See MoreGarden Advice please
Comments (1)Hi Sarah, You have a nice space with a beautiful established tree, which is great! With a narrow long garden, it is good to divide it in sections. At the moment, the path down the middle with nothing for your eyes to rest on in the way, is taking your gaze directly to the end of the garden!). What will these sections be depends on what you want from your garden (space for entertaining, sunbathing, area to sit in shade, vegetable beds etc) and the conditions of your garden as well (aspect, wind exposure, microclimates etc). I would be tempted to increase your patio area. Maybe using decking (budget friendly) instead of concrete slabs, and make this one section. Where you have the table to the bottom of the garden, I would either pave it or at least make a gravel covered sitting area (budget friendly) from it, and that would be another section. Planting borders along the middle with maybe a bench or somewhere to sit in, or areas to grow vegetables (again, this depends on what you want/need from your garden and your garden's conditions). I offer a range of online- based garden design services from garden sketches (very budget friendly) to garden plans with 3D visuals and planting plans ad-ons. Please, visit my website to learn more about it if you are interested, and I will be glad to help you more with your garden! Deborah...See Morewebbyland
