@michael Morton - quickest way to tidy trashed kids rooms is to get them to tidy it up themselves, usually just before they want (not need) to go somewhere or do something. Few episodes of you supervising + encouraging them along will soon see the amount of trashing of rooms decrease. Gritted teeth go a long way during this learning curve. Doesn't matter how small they are now - from 2yrs up, don't expect perfection. Wait til they reach 13-14yrs to try this - woahhh - you'll wish you had a bedroom tidy elf! The other way to look at it is ask yourself, will you lasting lifelong regret be that you didn't spend more time tidying up rooms!

Looks as though you are in the southern US? Do you mean can you cut the trunk back more than you have already? As you see they start to regrow easily. I would try by cutting one section back as far as you want, give it a year to see if it regrows satisfactorily and then if you’re happy with how it does then to do the lot the next year, or if it seemed too drastic, do over two years so the tree doesn’t get too much of a shock. I’ve never grown one myself as I’m in the United Kingdom but it’s very common in the south of France where as street trees they are pollarded tightly every year. Drastic, but it works. However the trees are not as large as yours. Can’t help with your mildew problem though.
