Might be worth contacting velux as there's something very wrong. The conservation velux windows they offer are either pivot or top hung, maybe they offered side hung in the past but the black inner doesn't look like their finish. http://www.velux.co.uk/products/roof-windows/conservation-roof-windows Are you sure it's velux, there are other companies such as Fakro that also offer them, I think they do side hung ones for habitable rooms too. I like the tiles - but for the floor. The only patterned tiles I would have on the walls would be marble. - @ Minnie - love the flamingo!! Would be amazing in a dark bathroom, ha ha. Actually my old family bathroom (as a kid) has a feature wall scene which was all fish! Was amazing. It’s still there now as my sister rents the old house. All in kind of creamy beige background with mid pastel colours of fish. Then myself and mum did a stained glass panel of fish to go in the window. Was cool at the time. Dated now but still fun!

I think most people tell their architect exactly how they want to extend and you might consider asking them to come up with the creative solutions. It might be there is a way of achieving what you want in a different way. I think it’s also important to state your budget so that they can be mindful of the limits of the project. You might also want to consider the services they offer- do you just want plans for a builder and the planning department, do you need their help to obtain planning? Do you want them to instruct structural engineers? Do you want the architect to have the work costed before finalizing plans? Do you want the architect to put the job out to tender? Do you want them to project manage? Do they have associations or recommendations for other professions you might have needed such as interior designers, kitchen suppliers etc. And I think some architects are snowed under at the moment- likely because they are in demand and/or possibly juggling home schooling- either way a realistic turn around time would be useful to know.
