When designing a kitchen and dining area, I usually draw down lights in a grid pattern 1200mm apart, as a starting point ... But it's always good to speak with an electrical person on site too, for a fine tuned, personal to your furniture and room, layout .

Do you want to see the reflection of the LEDs in the roof light? I wouldn't like that as it will show up every mark on the glass every time it gets dark.

I want to install LED lights on plasterboard that is directly on top of PIR boards on a 5.1x2.2 metres garage that I'm converting to a home office. I was reading that I should have clearance between the lights and the PIR board to allow air circulation, so I was looking for slim profile LED lights, but with so many choices, it is difficult to find the right product and if I'm taking the right way. I initially wanted to put GU10 LED lights in place as there is a lot of options with colour temperature, beam angle and lumens. But slim led lights there is way less choice, also the brands are a bit more obscure. I was hoping anyone could shed some "light" here to what is the best way forward. The GU light fittings are quite bulky but I have more options compared to the slim LEDS that have an external driver. I was hoping to leave as much insulation in place as possible.

If you're trying to shorten the lead between the LED lamp and the driver unit, I'd suggest taking the LED to an electrical wholesaler (open on tuesday) and they can see if they have (or order for you) the correct size replacement connector, or might be able to do it for you. Alternatives could be to remove a section of the cable and reconnect the 2 ends with either crimps or wago connectors. Other thing to note is some LED's don't like having their cables shortened or extended as it may effect their operation so when i used to install kitchens i would coil the cable up, tape it, then hide behind the back of the wall unit.
