Homes should be about individuality not breaking the bank. Hide the wires consider a good floor covering perhaps a lovely rug and build with what you have and enjoy the experience if you tire then just move much loved pieces to other rooms for a total new look. I love homes that are about the people who live in them makes me want to stay and have a cuppa your small pic here gives that vibe maybe the warmth of the wood in here im not sure but dont go to mad and spoil the feel that you already starting to create by getting to many boring mass produced highstreet junk in there

@Sonia, thanks for your reply, the hanging cupboard was part of the wall-unit set, it makes everything a little harder, I know... 😣 @The Living House, a rug covering the space will definitely go in there, I just didn't make time to get one. With the rug in place now I'm wondering if the fact that the sofa is the only thing centered all the more obvious. I've been thinking of adding an armchair opposite the coffee table. Maybe adding more elements that are centered vs few that are off centre will balance things out.  @i-architect, the golden ratio seems like an interesting idea but I can't visualise this in my space. What I understand is that the pieces need to be arranged to form an a scalene triangle.

That’s a lovely idea Sonia and something I thought of too. My only reservation was getting a wood patterned TV unit will mean I’d have multiple wood grains in one visual space. On the couch looking at the tv I’d see black wood/coffee table drawer/coffee table legs/New wood tv unit …..
