Simple question: Which colour TV unit?

last year

Looking to buy a new TV unit but really undecided whether to go for black or white.

Black to match the slats & cofee table or white to match the other half of the wall plus add a bit of a difference in colours from slats/sound bar/coffee table. Also happy to listen to another suggestion in terms of colour.

That’s a lovely idea Sonia and something I thought of too. My only reservation was getting a wood patterned TV unit will mean I’d have multiple wood grains in one visual space. On the couch looking at the tv I’d see black wood/coffee table drawer/coffee table legs/New wood tv unit …..

Hi all, so new TV unit arrived on the weekend nice and promptly, shame the new iPhone did not! Anyway here are a couple pics of the new piece. After making a small hole in the little cupboard I was able to feed the cables through for the Bowers & Wilkins speaker, so that is now sitting happily in its little cubby hole. This also creates a little self contained sub-woofer giving lots of extra bass!! Anyway it would be great to hear what you guys think and hope it inspires you to look for your perfect piece!

Hi, I'd look at the other colours which will be utilised in the room such as flooring, doors, etc and Basey decision on that. Personally, feel that both oak and white could work. Oak brings about a nice Warmth when paired with grey whilst white is a more contemporary option.

I like the one you've got, which I presume, is the darkest shade! it offers a nice contrast to the light floors and saves you the hassle of ensuring the light unit is tonally similar to the light floor, which is often difficult and looks odd if they don't match up right. The dark shade also works well with greys...

I think alignment would be a better focus rather than symmetry. For example, the drawers at the bottom lining up with the shelf divides. I would personally remove the drawers under the fire and make more of a feature of the fire place/area. There‘s a lot of dead space above the TV, could you maybe add an enclosed shelf a top-opening door? It could be in line with the top most shelf on the left. Could you paint the vent the same colour and finish as the walls to make it blend in?

I'd stick with black. It will tie it together with the slats and your coffee table.

Looks great. There is a belief that you should try and chose 3 materials and use them all through your house if you like visual cohesion. Easier said than done :)). I like the way the black recedes.
