Thanks very much - I hadn't thought of that search and actually it comes up with a few options I hadn't seen before. I still find it strange that I haven't come across a single image of a side by side with the freezer on the right. Is this because appliances are designed for right handed people? I'm right handed - that's not the issue for me. Or is there some other reason why the fresh needs to go on the left?

Thank you all for your comments and advice. Man about the House - you're correct, bigger freezer will mean I'll end up buying more food that I don't need and then freezing it and I'll never see it again! I've always had a very small fridge freezer and I think that is the reason why we hardly waste any food as we only buy what we can fit in the fridge. The final size of the room including 3m rear extension will be 7.5m long 5m wide but the kitchen part will only go up to 4m max in length ( if I go for L shape with island ) Emily - yes planning on having a modern kitchen Jonathon - my husband likes the look of them but not bothered about filtered water/ ice dispenser. I find them very narrow inside. I do like the french door style ones but again they are bulky too and very expensive!

Yes. Most are deeper than your kitchen units so will stick out and if you look at the specification sheet of the fridge you are looking at you will find instructions of the gap you are supposed to leave between the fridge and cabinet to allow the doors to open.

I suspect your fridge cabinet on order is a standard 60cm wide which and the extra 9cm is a filler that allows the door enough room to open fully. If you have reconsidered the amount of space you need consider swapping the fridge to a full height larder and putting a freezer elsewhere. Is there a 60cm wide base cabinet that could be swapped for a built under freezer (which will be significantly bigger than the freezer in your 70/30 fridge- I reckon it will be 55% bigger)
