I don't mind a brushed or hammered gold, but I'm not so sure about the shiny stuff!

I love it, but like any material, it needs to be in context.

Gold in context with sleek shapes and straight lines is never wrong.. it's a good way to keep it simple to prevent a cheesy look and secure it to be classy and timeless.

Oh gold is fabulous. I do prefer mirror polished brass sheet myself if was to go down the golden hued road for walls tho.

Years and years gold hardware was the first thing one ripped out when renovating a house: Golden tabs, door handles etc. just HAD to go (and did it lots of times myself)! Now it is coming back into fashion again - but I find it hard to overcome the need to rip it out straight away and I personally think it won't stay long.

Not that sort of gold. I like Dulux Pharaoh's Gold paint for my kitchen.

Gold has it's place but should be used sparingly. Chrome / silver is far more versatile and understated.

Love gold, particularly when mixed with turquoise, cobalt blue or indigo. In moderation.

Hello Tom, It's one of those things that is all to do with what and where... I also love copper and the brassy gold colours.... it works beautifully on really dark walls like navy, charcoals and greys.. but the word opulent that you have used I think is a really good one... reason being that I think to really create opulence that is both beautiful and tasteful is where the choices really come into play... The image you have used is an excellent example... I'm not keen, think Keen as euphemism for...... :) but then see the image below as another example which I love... So for me it's not really the colour per se as the choice of said thing, and the use of the colour, material..... : )) I think gold can be opulent, tasteful, beautiful if it's not made to look gaudy, tacky and over the top... Think... liberal but not Liberace.. : ) )

Funnily enough I have just redone a small bedroom in a gold theme, but kept the gold to a vintage mirror frame & a vintage bateau vase, then toned it with pale honey walls & light oak laminate, & brilliant white woodwork.

In the right setting, a one-off feature item in a gold colour, such as a marble fireplace looks stunning!

Or for a more subtle look, why not have a bespoke made table top or vanity top in a pale marble with gold coloured veining such as the Calacatta Oro?

I'm all for a subtle touch of gold, but generally I'm not much of a fan.

Like red, gold must be used sparingly as it has a high visual impact. Too much of it just looks garish and over powering. Subtle amounts however can be gorgeous.

After many years of having a dull, cold (but admittedly on trend at the time) grey dining room, we redecorated the room in a very pale gold wallpaper. It has totally transformed the room which is now warm and inviting. Gold doesn’t necessarily need to mean bling if used in the right way.
