Love the book shelf, such a great idea to use the space!

On our dream kitchen island we would have a built in butchers block.

Bar stools, pendant lights (obviously!) and a sink would make up my perfect kitchen island. Something like this...

I think I would have to choose storage too - ideally it would have a small wine rack/fridge, under counter fridge drawers, a cook book shelf, some space for pots and pans, and a little breakfast bar. Is that too much to ask?

I'm easy, one with space for at least three bar stools, bookcase to one side, wine cooler to the other and storage to the rest, granite worktop with stowaway electric grill plate and an induction hob installed, extensible and quiet extractor hood above - best for the family and friends to gather for wine o'clock, a Korean barbecue or a Chinese fondue (or all of them at the same time). Did I say 'I'm easy'???

I have such an island : Sink in the middle, under counter drawer fridge one side, dishwasher the other. Love it but would not have drawer fridge again - too messy and difficult to store other than flat things!!! Conventional fridge easier and better view of stock!! Mine is gloss grey cupboards with grey marble work tops and splash backs - the latter much better than tiles as grouting is a pain. All finished with a grey/white seating and a bright red rug on the porcelain floor tiles. Centre piece is a wood burning stove. Now realised, in our 70's, this is too big for us so looking to sell, three bedrooms each with ensuite, two on ground floor and one large room upstairs. Lounge, utility and conservatory. Secluded garden at rear, well stocked with trees/shrubs and flowers, with patterned concrete front garden surrounded by border of shrubs etc., Wood shed at bottom of garden.

I'm a kitchen table girl too - a kitchen diner is perfect for me, the table has a bench at one side, Grandma's inherited jumble sale mismatched chairs with wipe-clean cupcake seats at the other and an auction find second hand balloon back at the head, room for 8 - table stretches to 12 when needed.

Currently the table houses 50th birthday flowers, a get well soon card (sciatica), a box of wine delivered yesterday but not yet opened (temptation too great when on these tablets!), the ubiquitous condiments and this laptop.

Eating will happen somewhere else tonight.

My sister in law has two dishwashers in her island with the double sink (stretchy tap) and waste disposal. They tick my boxes too as long as I'd also have room for my precious well-scrubbed kitchen table.

For me, a good quality white marble look quartz top with slab ends to wrap the sides and a dark wood door front for the look with big pan drawers and a wine fridge. No sink or stove to get in the way. Oh, and about 3m long!

Now all I need is a new house to fit it in. :-)

I love this kitchen island we did for a client... grey hand painted and with loads of storage space and a beautiful dark grey sandstone worktop. The brass handles are a beautiful touch.

I think a perfect island should combine aesthetics and good storage, and if you go for a kitchen island it has to be a feature. Like these gorgeous examples

I am not a fan of islands...but,..wow ! this top photo one is fab..it looks functional & recycled..(it probably isn't adapted) & that fantastic floor just grounds it beautifully..more details please !

My dream kitchen island would have lots of storage for pans , roasting and baking tins . A granite work top , an induction hob with a small sink to the left so you don’t have to walk to the main sink to empty hot pans .
