Window to add more light.

I'm thinking of putting another window in my living room to add more light . Its doesn't directly overlook any other houses and there are windows on the side where I want it to go already only on the second level . Would I need planning permission to do this ? It would look something like the one in the photo.

Check the planning page of your local authority website. I suspect you do need permission.

I did, but it is all a bit vague . I think its okay if window is small and it doesn't over look anyone. Also if there is one on that side of the building already and is in a more prominent position . I wonder if anyone has done this type of work already ?

What age of house is it ? As glass block seem to only really suit a particular age / style of home ?! ..... simply adding lamps with daylight bulbs may be a less permanent solution ?!

Internal difficult to get on my phone sorry. The wall at the end of the bannister rail is coming out and the landing will return . The right hand window on the exterior vie is in that toilet. The house was divided in two with a garage conversion and we are putting it back to one house. TIA

I would give your local council a call or email them, they vary in different areas so anything we tell you may not apply. There should be an email address for their planning department. The quality of the question you ask will help, the more info and specifics the better. Also ask them to refer you to the planning guidelines section they rely on specifically so if any question in future you have all the details and backup.
