Shell sink?!

Hi! The sink in this photo of the bathroom with the simple walls, wooden stand and then what looks like a shell sink- can you give me more info on where it is from, what its made from, etc. thanks x

If you are making a studio that you can actually paint in, then you'll need bare boards varnished or silk-gloss painted - otherwise your rug will get ruined! Also, think about a system for hanging your works - either permanently or whilst they dry. No point having a beautifully-painted wall getting pockmarked with pins or blutac, or never changing your wall display because you want to keep things 'perfect'. A system of 'washing lines' running parallell to and close to the walls works nicely. (Jute string and clothes pegs for an old-fashioned look; steel cable or malin wire and metal hooks for contemporary - yacht chandlers are the place to go for the latter. ) Have a look at Gwen John's paintings for colour inspiration. Even though her painted interiors were Parisian, her palette remained rather English. On damp - limewash is magic. It doesn't seal off damp but processes it. Years ago, I painted the north wall of my very unfinished kitchen in Normandy with limewash, but didn't do the patch where the sink was. When we took the sink out to put in the floor(...) we found that the unpainted patch was DRIPPING but the painted parts were dry.

your welcome from my experience you are always starting again with homes as styles and you change so you will have a head start. I'm always changing things with paint and reinventing rooms but over the years found that the classics especially if originals like yours will always stand the test of time and never go out of style but they dont have to look dated mix it up. if you tire of the carpet which I love think about making it into a huge rug bounded around the edge with what ever colour adorns your walls then would look stunning on a wood floor same with the sink could always be used in another room I would team it with black or even faux marble back drop oh endless fun and NOT AVAILABLE on the high street enjoy your home always

I think the answer is, it depends... On what sort of cooking you do; how much pain you feel if you see a grease spot; what sort of things you want to put on the shelf and whether you will replace them often. Of course, you could just put glass doors, although the effect won't be the same. I applaud your choice of matt cabinet finish - super shiny finishes are such a pain to keep looking good.

Hi Craig, DeVol certainly make beautiful kitchens and I know it was one of the options that we looked at earlier this year when we were choosing a kitchen. My experience was certainly that they weren't the cheapest by quite a way. Might just be worth checking you're comparing like for like as with DeVol we found that worktops, sinks etc were all on top, where as at first glance the Maison du Monde ones look like that comes included? I am presuming you are happy with joints in the worktops, as they units would come with the stone on top already?
