Hello bongoflava15, Well small doesn't have to mean boring...I lived in a studio that was about the size of a double garage.. So firstly you need to give the illusion the space is large! For this consider changing the curtains to white to match the walls.. This way they blend and floor length would be good. Could you consider painting the floor to match the walls and paint the doors too as Minnie has suggested.. This way nothing is dominating the vision except the brown sofa.. ..... Hang a huge mirror on the chimney breast to throw light into the room and perhaps one on the opposite wall too.. Oversized mirrors that lean against the wall can be really useful too.. You could still have a chair in front or something but it really gives the idea of double the room, plus the extra light..... You could even paint the chimney breast to give some contrast but consider light chalky colours..... Creamy whites rather than actual white and then stone colours or something similar.. (works with orange too!) Think of interesting storage or over head shelving, chests that double as coffee tables or side tables with lids to put things inside.. Paint the table white to appear less solid and then have a few things to bring life to the room... You have the orange chairs so consider a large wooden bowl filled with oranges to compliment the chairs.. Perhaps orange cushions to go on the leather sofa... Both the sofa and the chairs have something retro about them.. So go with that and find some more interesting things... Paint wooden boxes white and fix them to the walls and create interesting shelving for lovely vases or interesting pieces.... It offers texture but also can be useful! ... Glass is another material that is good for smaller spaces.. Anything appearing transparent or less solid due to a camouflage aspect is a good way to think here... Are all the rooms small? I don't know what everyone likes stylewise or colours but I quite like the houses on the wall in the first pic on the wall where your sofa is. The kids could update the characters in the Windows using decals when they grow out of a phase. It's only paint so easy to paint over when they're teenagers. The rest of the walls i'd do in a scrubbable paint. Where the radiator is i'd add a table like pic 2 but with the shelves underneath the table in pic 3 for craft storage (maybe make it deep enough for a games console in the future). I'd also add cheap shelves above for art and pencil storage etc with bins etc. The desk could be raised when they grow but also used as a tv stand when they're older. The eames chairs are kids one, they're easy to keep clean and quite cheap at £25 (seat height is 32cm) for when they grow out of them. I'd add a rug in the middle and the beanbag by the bookcase. You could add a "once upon a time" or a "read" decal over the bookcase And maybe star bunting or Pom poms over the eaves to cosy up the reading area. l'd add clothes pegs on the cupboard door for their dress up stuff plus a couple of toy bags for lightweight bits. I'd keep the rest of the room free for play (although the existing drawers could be handy) and when they're older add a sofa for tv, PlayStation etc. What type of lights do you have ATM?

What is the length of the right hand wall? Provisionally though, I think the shape of the room and the location of the patio doors massively limits your options and I don't see how you'll have enough space for a decent sized kitchen and separate eating area...

Thank you both so much for your excellent suggestions. I am so heartened you think there are better configurations. Jonathan - I see that I should have given the measurement for the short wall in the corner, which is 900mm. Even though I cannot get to 1000mm x 1200mm,I think a 900mm x 1200mm shower would be a major improvement. Yes, I'd normally want to avoid opening a door straight onto a view of the loo, but I'd not rule it out to make the room better. Rinq - I've attached a plan to show the shower in more context. It really is the ultimate "add-on"! Sadly, there is no space for anything in the corridor but we do have an airing cupboard elsewhere. The shower room extension is partly below ground (with a French drain) so all the green areas below are banks sloping up from the house. This, and moving the drain outside the bedroom door, is probably why extending would cost so much. You've given me some more great ideas so I will start checking out the cost of moving the soil stack versus relocating the basin.
