I personally prefer the first one as it's an unusual and attractive shape. Cream would not stand out against the wall. The room looks nice. You do not have to have everything in a particular style, just choose things that you really like. Just my opinion. Good luck.

I had this issue when we moved into our house :) The original mirror that we had was a rectangular one. This actually got cracked during the move, and I even took it to the local glazier and for £40 had it all made good again. We'd always had a rectangular, so we didn't think of changing. Then whilst out, I came across this round mirror and instantly wanted it. IMO there is absolutely no contest in which one I prefer. (round one if you're guessing) I'd never even considered a round mirror as an option - but I bought it, hoping that it would be ok as I had nowhere else to put it should I not like it. I don't know how this will help you in your question - but just go with what you like. Bang a nail in, and if you don't like it, change it, if you still don't like it, hang a picture on it - be flexible, When you find something - you'll know that it's correct.

Yes Carolina, sofa facing the fireplace and tv to one side of the fireplace (undecided)! I have decided on the round mirror, will post some pics once I'm done. The wall were the mirror is just now I'm going to put family pictures up there

My comment about not hanging the painting above a fire was predicated by the fact that regardless of the wall construction, heat rises. Heat will dry out the surface causing cracking. The oils you see of ancestors above large open fires are in room that are always freezing with heat being dragged up the chimney instead of into the room. And, if you look closely at these portraits, they are invariably cracked.
