The second link you provided shows box (buxus) plants. I have them in sun & in shade & they seem to be fine in both. I give them a trim to shape them once or twice a year. They’re fairly pricey to buy as a larger plant & unfortunately lots of people have problems with a disease called box blight which can kill the plants off. I tend to buy them as very small plants & they fill out after a few years. There are other plants you can use that are similar for topiary - I’m sure someone on here will be able to recommend some. Hostas (shown on Sonia’s first photo with the red tree) are great for shade although I’d recommend keeping them in pots as slugs & snails love eating them.

What a lovely gift. The face is that of a green man. Think they were popular with the gothic revival movement so poss 19th century (think church gargoyles etc.) However the carving doesn’t look ornate enough to be Victorian somehow. Looks quite crudely done so my guess is that it’s a hand made piece. The wood looks to have some age to it tho. You could ask/email local auctioneers or antique dealers to see if they can shed more light. I’m no antique expert btw, but I’d be very happy for a present like that 😊.

I think the room looks really nice. Everything doesn’t have to match like a catalogue photo shoot. I think adding something cosy at the foot of the bed in navy would bring it all together. Curtains look fine but if you want a change then ones in a similar colour to the walls would look good. These two throws are from next.
