I really like the pale wood tone as a contrast in the 'Gold' picture - it is a golden hue but it also adds depth and texture because its a natural material

i think your basic problem is that the end of bed throw you have is not giving you the 'lux' look of your inspiration pic. Try a larger size, maybe a size or two larger than your bed, so it drapes fully over the end and can be folded back. See if you can find one with a sheen, or shimmer in the fabric or knit to really achieve you desired look.
