This is an upholstery fabric with a 50,000 rub test, velvet piles can flatten but they rise up again, I think it is part of the beauty of the fabric. The sofas were stain protected but If you are particularly concerned about this, there are other velvets on the market for contract use which may have a higher resistance. As regards care, it is the same as for any other fabric covered sofa.
