Looking at replacing kitchen worktops and sink -what are the pros and cons of going for work top overlay ?

Thanks, but there isn´t really a windo sill. All there is is the thickness of the widow surround, which is a couple of millimeters. I really would like to find something htat will just go along the join where the walls meet the worktop. I´m sure there must be some kind of trim that is commonly used.

Hi Mandy, Most modern kitchen carcasses are strong enough to withstand the weight of natural granite or quartz. If there is doubt however, the stone installers should be able to suggest support (brackets etc). Both granite and quartz lend themselves perfectly to under mounted with/ without grooves or top mounted sinks. The one piece of advice we give to all customers is to make sure that you see your slabs before you place the order, especially with natural material as they can vary dramatically in colour texture and tone. Thanks ‘Man about the house’, we hope to house the boiler, but as it’s non-standard size (it’s a commercial sized boiler) we are exploring doing a bespoke cabinet with a standard door but this depends on the cost! I like the idea of a light and airy kitchen - will definitely explore this. For cabinet doors, am now thinking perhaps f&b ammonite coloured doors but worried that grey won’t be in fashion in a few years so perhaps looking at colours that are more classical/light such as f&b old white or James white. Currently testing these colours on our kitchen wall! Will post pictures when am home.

Thank you all for your comments. I am starting from scratch. It is a galley kitchen but the width between the units on either side is wide (and there is an open breakfast room at the end). It is a very old cottage so don't really want grey. would make sure the floor was sealed (not glossy though). The hob is on the left and the sink on the right side so these piece of slate would be on either side of the galley. Currently it is all old oak as as much as I would love to keep it, it make the kitchen feel dark and it's in very poor condition. I will sell all this oak on ebay. Considered using some of it but don't think it's going to work as will be even more "patchy"
