It doesn't appear to out of ordinary, but I would have the fabricator and contractor (if this was a build) come back out to document. Have them review it and ask them to take photos. What our fabricator did for one of our customers was to put in writing that they would warranty for as long as this customer owned the home that if the fissure opened up and actually cracked, they would replace that countertop. The downside is they won't replace all the others in the room so you could have a mismatch if something actually happened. In our case, they continue to say they are confident it is a natural fissure and they don't foresee any future issues.

Are you sure this happened after installation? Is it smooth to the touch?

Factories will repair natural breaks in the material prior to crating it for shipment. Slabs are infused with resin which reinforces the strength of the stone.

I definitely feel a break - not smooth. Fabricator is coming later this week to take a look. Just wondering how to address.

I fixed one of these a few months ago. Believe it or not, the top picture is how the fabricator left the installed top. When you don't clamp the piece with straightedges on the top when you adhere it back together, you get the dip you see in the second picture. I tried to snap this back off, but it wouldn't budge. It's always better if you can break the piece completely because you can get adhesive saturation.

It polished out nicely and you can't feel the crack, but the whoop-dee is still there.

What do you think of this quartzite slab? It’s in an area of different mineral-possibly more quartz here? The crack goes through this whole “blob” of quartz which was on all three slabs we used. This fissure/crack on all of them. I can feel the faint line with my nail.

It's natural stone; there aren't really any "defects".

Maybe a bad choice of words.... in your opinion, does this look more like a crack or fissure? I understand it may be hard to determine from the photos but figured it was worth giving it a go; I've seen your comments on other posts and they are always very informative.

I'll go with fissure from the pictures.
