Comments (4)It's a great space you have there. I actually quite like the painting and think the colours go well with your furniture. I would put the picture on a different wall and put the mirror above the fireplace instead. I would then introduce some colours from the painting (if you can be persuaded to keep it!). Warm oranges and mustard yellows would look great with the sofa and the wood. some scatter cushions on the sofa and perhaps a rug in the same colours would go well. Regarding the window, I think its a shame to cover any of it up as it's a beautiful bay window. I would go with recessed roman blinds in a lovely warm fabric in the colours above. Comments (4)Hello. I'm not sure if I am in right place but I just didn't find a topic about DYI windows blinds so maybe it would be useful not only for me. I and my wife after a year finally finished our home rework. Of course, there still is a lot of work to do, but at least now we can live there :huray: . The first thing that annoys us a lot is disturbing morning sun. We can't get enough sleep, because of it. So we started looking for windows blinds. So far we decided that we want roller blinds. But after long research, we find out that there is an option to get customized blinds and even create our own. Comments (12)Hello Hayley, What a lovely alcove! I second on the curtains. Dusty pink or coral would look lovely with that green. Velvet would be so lush. You could also consider using a faux suede. Blinds would certainly work to leave the beautiful woodwork exposed. See pic below, this fabric is actually a pale grey dimout with white stripe detail called Birch. With our blinds you can actually swap the fabric of your blind without replacing the rest of the system so if you opt for white blinds for now but fancy a change down the line it's not a problem.

Its a beautiful window which really need to show off the original panelling which surrounds it. I would recommend keeping it really simple with panelled shutters to echo the surrounding shutters. ( see image 1)
Alternatively if you wanted to soften it, dress plantation shutters with very slim floor to ceiling curtains which don't obscure the panelling too much.(see image 2)

PRO10 years agoHi, If you are looking to modernise the look, personally I think light, bright and fresh colours work best along with highlighting the features that are already there. Remove the curtains to open up the room and maximise the light.
