Kitchen wall and worktop join advice needed please?
I´m replacing my worktops with a different colour Silestone and will also replace the wall tiles. I´ve had three quotes and the designers have all assumed that we will want a Silestone upstand around the join, the same as we have now. This is the traditional "go to" design in this part of Spain.
The one we have at the moment is 50mm and it is assumed will go for that height again. I suggested having one a little higher to fill the gap between the worktop and the window, but it has just occurred to me that it will stick out a couple of mm in depth
under the window frame and won´t look as neat as I had thought.
I would quite like to not have a Silestone upstand at all but I haven´t a clue what the options are for neatening the join. Can anyone make any suggestions please?

8 years agoHopefully I've understood your dilemma correctly and if so I would suggest doing a windowsill in silestone as well which overlaps the top of the upstand. See photo below.

It looks how I thought it should and the join is where my hob will be fitted (hopefully this afternoon) so not noticeable at all. Comments (10)A 20mm gap is far to much to have as the upstands are only 20mm thick, if the fitters tried to fit the upstands to the walls then it would slip down the back. The overhang of the worktop to the front of the cabinets, depending on the depth of the cabinets, should be between 30-40mm all round, be worthwhile checking this out. When you say the tap doesn't fit easily, is it that the hole is to small (35mm) or does the tap hit the upstand. I assume the kitchen (base units at least) were all in place and fitted before templating and haven't moved between template and worktop installation. I think the fitters have tried to make the best out of a bad job and something went wrong in either templating or fabrication. Your supplier should still have the physical templates so I'd definitely go back to them. There's always a bit of filling to be done between the upstands and the wall with decorators caulk as no wall is flat and upstands don't bend. Modern dob and dab walls are some of the worst i've seen. Hopefully its decorators caulk and not silicon thats been used....See More
