Also, what Schmidt does and I absolutely love it is an inset of a stone into laminate worktop so you just pick a spot on your worktop you would use for hot pots or as a chopping board and you're killing two birds with one stone. Comments (9)@Daisy England - Thanks for the advice on the worktop depths, I should have mentioned in the original post that we're not that keen on the marble looks though. @Alexander Trovalusci - Would there be a reason to get marble or granite over quartz, from what I've read you have to be a lot more careful with marble and with three young boys in the house that may be an issue! @rinked - Thanks for suggestions, the Stellar Blanco and Et Serena look good, not so sure on the Lyra though. @Juliet Docherty - I have contacted the kitchen company, but they aren't able to supply a colour code, unfortunately....See MoreKitchen design advice - wall colour and worktops!
Comments (8)Look at Earthstone as a quartz alternative. It’s a 6mm solid surface wrapped around a chipboard core, so it has most of the advantages of a solid/quartz surface at a fraction of the price. It can be shaped and sanded, left matte (which is what I did) or polished to a high gloss. I’m really, really impressed with mine—cost around £1300 for two long lengths plus breakfast bar AND delivery to Northern Ireland.
