There are multiple options for what you need but first of all there are a few questions to ask. 1. What are you hoping to install the tiles on externally? 2. Do you need a grip finish (advisable with children or if there is chance for build up on the tiles) 3. Are you looking for a 10mm internal and 20mm external tile? I think we have a 300x1200 20mm plank available to us with a 10mm internal option which isn't currently on our website. I think that small so does in the 80's and 90's were due to poor glass technology and energy requirements? Not sure about the 70's though. my Mum's 60's house has huge windows that were once aluminium framed and so how glazed. freezing until my parents double glazed it. anyway, old and grim trends: carpets in bathrooms, those Swarovski crystal animal ornaments, grey bi-fold doors, wood-look upvc windows, shiny black granite floor tiles, stripy wallpaper up to a dado rail, ornate tile borders at rail height on walls, paisley carpets.

A Vax steam mop is probably the best way of doing it. I have one and use it in my studio after workshops, my sister has porcelain floors and a Labrador and swears by it. John Lewis sells them, worth a look.

Thank you all for your comments. Very much appreciated. My wife is ruling out wood because she doesn't like the look of wood in kitchens and because we have solid wood flooring in the rest of the downstairs area and she thinks it will clash. Picture below of where out kitchen meets the hallway. Also we bought some more of those tiles yesterday to get more of a feel of what it'll look like. It does look pretty good but it does worry us about what type of table and appliance colours we will be able to get and really making it all look a bit drab perhaps? We are leaning towards sticking with relaying the same times the house already has as we have been unable to find any better looking light grey tiles. We do really like them.
