Blinds over blinds?

I'm after some advice on my bedroom blinds.
We've got white wooden blinds which we love but they let a lot of light through in the night and it's taking me a while to get to sleep. I don't want to get rid of them as love the look of them inside and out and we haven't got the best view out of front windows so they help block it out. Do you think Roman blinds would look ok over the top?
If so, what colour would you recommend? We've just recently decorated our bedroom so they would need to go with what we've already done. The room feels a bit cold with the grey walls and carpet so I want something to warm up the room
P.S the 1st photo makes the room look a bit dark but it's actually a very bright sunny room; it's just my lack of camera skills!

Pick up on one of the more subtle greens or the darker mauve ( very pretty) and have nice thick plush looking roman blinds across the tops overhanging the windows at either side by around 4 inches. Will warm it up a little and make it nice and dark at night when you put them down They'll go really well with your little lampshade x

Hiya,

Definitely go for the layered look - it's an effect lots of our customers favour and you get the best of both worlds. A Roman blind will create a really cosy feel like you say, and as Bagpuss mentions, picking up on the purple would be a really lovely look. You could also go for a pop of the lime green you've used as an accent colour, for an alternative modern look?

For my first roman blind I used a roman blind kit from Dunelm, worked out great. I then used those instructions to go on to make a further 12 (never buy a house with 5 sided bay windows!) and purchased the bits needed from terrysfabrics as mentioned by Catherine Byrne. They are really straightforward. The key is to take your time with your measurements/calculations and with ensuring your edges and rod pockets are straight.

I think you can go for grey and white and still have a country kitchen. If you like grey and white and have that theme near the kitchen then it will blend well. As you say, you can pick up another accent colour that goes with those two, that might warm it up. Turquoise, green, yellow, orange may well all warm, whilst will tone well with white, grey and the black of the granite. I would not put a blind over the French door. If anything, have one door curtain that you pull or not as you please, a blind would look out of place. I might consider a different choice to Roman Blind also, your windows are quite short, and, Roman blinds take up a lot of height even when not let down. So, you may lose light from the kitchen.

It is a wonderful space and the view to the garden is lovely. However I think it would benefit from some softness that only fabric can give. Roller rather than wooden would be my choice. You could try a billowy white fabric treatment, but that may make it too 'bedroomy'. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks both. I've decided to go for a thick plush darkish purple to match the lampshades. Looking forward to seeing them up
