Window colour

Hi, I'm changing the windows on our house - I love the look of anthracite Grey but my dilemma is the back has a mixture of turquoise aluminium windows/patio doors and oak doors/facias?! Would it be terrible to have a very different look at the front compared with the back? The back ones are new so not an option to change them. The house is in a pretty village with predominantly attractive old cottages. Should I go grey at the front or oak to fit in with the back.

To vamp up the front it would be attractive with oak the colour of the back door. Thicker frames and also the large window panels. The house would benefit and be more appealing with a nice oak entrance porch at the main door. Enjoy your project

I agree with the above, the back of the house is far more attractive than the front. It definitely needs a proper porch, and I personally couldn't live with the weird glass extension on the front, so i'd have to half brick up and put in proper windows.

If you don't want to replae the turquoise at the back , have it powder coated in a colour of your choice, grey as you say. It'll still sit well with the oak. See below a quick design mock up with the grey that you like and a period oak door and porch. Now it can hold it's head up high with the other period homes in the village x

Black is classic and expected. The green is absolutely gorgeous though and wouldn't be a terrible choice. Both will recede into the background more than the old pale green conservatory. You already have bits of black but if you choose green then you might think about painting the bits under the windows in the same green to tie it in. I know there's obviously a lot of green in the garden already, but it needs to connect to the rest of the house too.

I wouldn't have either, I would have a greyed yelllow green. It would complement the stone. Something like Shaded White. I'll try to find out from instagram who has a similar house with similar windows. Basically you need a grey that contains some yellow for it to blend.

Thank you so much all for your input - I will post samples of brick and colours when i get back home (Im currently away). Since my original post I’ve chickened out of 7013 as it can look quite green under certain lights. I’m now down to 7039 vs 7022. I believe there might be another thread pitting those two against one another. I’m quite reassured by the above pictures as they look great althiygb I see what you mean anout the eventual result looking lighter than the swatch would indicate. Thanks again!

Thanks Bagpuss, can I ask how you alter photos?! That is just what I am needing, to actually see what it could look like with the different colours against the brick. Cheers

I just used MS Paint, it's quite a useful tool when you get used to all the twiddly bits, it's not hard x
