Crittall-style windows - hot or not?
Comments (20)We have new double-glazed Crittall french windows on 3 floors at a holiday home facing the beach. We have a long list of problems with them. They run with condensation on the frames in winter. The powder coating finish is unable to resist salt and sea air after less than 3 years and Critall are unable to suggest a maintenance regime for salt removal (but void the guarantee if you don't follow it). The hinges and handles are crude - not sealed or resistant - and have corroded/seized after a couple of years. I am sure they are ok in a sheltered setting and look fabulous but they have performed much worse than run-of-the-mill windows on our neighbours' houses. PM me if you're interested in some used ones. We're seriously thinking of taking them out....See Morehelp needed with window colour and render choice

Comments (44)Jonathan originally said taller crittall would look better than the shorter ones even if we had less of them Posted a pic again of the whole room layout for you @Emily. It will have a dark blue black shaker kitchen with suspended chimney extractor on cables and wood effect floor. I’ve seen industrial style kitchens with both crittall and wider bifolds and they both look nice. I would go with bifolds for the cost now because we have a max budget to spent on the house to ever get our money back (it’s not that we can’t afford to do what we want as such but you don’t want to throw money away!) even though I love the Crittall BUT it’s the practical side that we can’t agree on now...See MoreCrittall altwrnative Dilema.
Comments (12)Hi Alan, There are many alternatives to Crittall steel doors and windows that will appeal because of the low cost, but there are very good reasons to choose genuine Crittall... The quality of steel used in genuine Crittall is exceptionally high. Low quality steel will degrade and rust (surprisingly quickly) The steel is dipped in a molten bath of zinc to galvanise and protect it from rust - practically forever! The zinc-galvanised steel frames are finally protected even further with an extremely durable epoxy-free polyester powder coating (available in any RAL colour!) Crittall steel is incredibly strong and will withstand the stresses of daily use. Crittall is a hand-made product that receives the full attention of a small team of craftsmen, expertly checking quality and ensuring excellence at every level of construction. The modern double-glazed windows are insulated with Krypton gas rather than Argon (or air) which provides a better thermal barrier for improved insulation. Genuine Crittall is imitated everywhere now, and for good reason - it is simply the best! The classic design and much sought after style may not cost as much as you think though and it is always worth seeking a quote. You can visit the YES Glazing Solutions showroom and see the quality of genuine Crittall doors, including our set of Crittall sliding doors and see why they are worth every penny!...See Moresandrasal
