Minnie is absolutely right about the wallpaper - whether there is a physical demarkation or not, you will still be creating a false line for the eye that's hardly going to be restful in your living room, and will just look odd. My advice would be to dump the idea of a feature wall and put your desire for a floral pattern into a lovely rug. I assume you are keeping the carpet? It looks light beige in the photos and you need to keep this colour in mind, as well as the black of the sofas, when choosing the rest of the scheme. Maybe have a look at rugs with big, swirly floral patterns in browns and coppers or golds as well as beige and black, then pick colours from that (copper or gold would be lovely) for your cushions and curtains. The walls (and up the staircase wall) I would paint in a very, very light shade of whatever beige or taupe dominates in the carpet (impossible to tell from a photograph so grab some paint charts). WOW, all great suggestion. I feel a bit redundant in any additional comments ... but I will jump in anyway ;-) Budget: how much? Where would you like you ££ to go? Lighting could really make a difference and a pendent or a wall light above the working area is both stylish and useful. how much work are you willing to take on? The external wire tracking are not particularly pretty so unless you go for a groovy industrial look as suggested by Minnie, I will try to blend them in with the scheme rather then draw attention to them. It's a compact kitchen so keeping it light as St James Interior suggested, is a good idea. Dark colours on the walls will bring them closer making the room feeling smaller. Whatever look or suggestion you go with make sure you have a plan. Write it all down, take colour swatches and samples when you go shopping and look at how things work together. It's very easy to fall in love with one item's look and discovered that it just does not go with the rest. Good planning save money! You will probably need also some shelfs for spices and hooks, light under the wall unit on the right hand side of the photo you post and maybe a dish rack by the sink. These are all elements that will be in full view and will contribute to the final look of the room. I attached a quick sketch board for inspiration. If you love one of the looks suggested by St James Interior, take your time with the purchases. Do not compromise of what you want, it may take longer to achieve it but it will be worth it. My Grandma treated herself to buying a piece of this every month or so until she acquired a proper collection. Having worked in 'domestic service' in the 1920's, it meant a lot to her to own something perceived at the time as being so elegant. If you don't like it there will probably be others out there looking to replicate missing pieces or even start one off.

Pleached trees are like a hedge on stilts. Can you see in the photo the trees along the rear side boundary where there are no branches on the stem and the upper head of the tree is trained along wires and canes? These will eventually grow together to form a hedge at the top of the fence. It's great because it doesn't really encroach into the garden space. These trees are Hornbeam (Carpinus) and will only need clipping once or twice a year to keep them in shape. I like to underplant them with a low hedge of clipped Box - looks very smart. These trees are quite expensive - you may find them online cheaper, but I am paying around £300 each for them. However, you'd probably only need about two or three to get you started.
