Oak Doors, Skirting, Architrave + Picture Rail
Comments (2)I installed all oak doors, linings, architraves and skirtings in my house and they look great. As above we always use pellets to cover the screw holes running with the grain and you hardly notice them. My walls were very bad at the bottom where the skirting touched so i rebated the back of the skirtings to allow them to sit upright properly. Due to movement don't miter the internal corners. Its much better to butt and scribe them so any shrinkage doesnt open the joint as noticeably. If cost is an issue then ash is a cheaper alternative and looks very similar....See More70's plastic architrave, skirting and windowsills???
Comments (1)You have plastic skirt and arch in caravans. Perhaps they used this originally to save painting as it's supplied in a finished state (unless you don't want white). I'd replace it using either timber of MDF. Removing a window sill shouldn't create much mess. Perhaps some adjoining plaster will come off with it but that can be patched up....See MoreCeiling, skirting and architrave the same colour as walls or white?
Comments (6)If you have beautiful period detailing, lovely coving etc then you can draw attention to them by using a contrast. If they are pale and the walls are dark (and vice versa) the contrast will be very strong. However, if the coving and skirting is nothing special then drawing attention to them might be the wrong thing to do. There's no right or wrong answer. With Farrow and Ball colours, then there are lots of options to pick out s slightly darker or slightly lighter version of the same hue. Does this make sense?...See MoreDoes colour of skirting and architrave need to match?
