It depends what type of tile you are referring to, porcelain and ceramic tiles are well-known for being low maintenance,if you regularly clean your tiles with warm water you should be fine! Please note this would not suit natural stone as it would remove the sealer - a specially designed cleaner should be purchased for these.

Hi Ffion, I have to agree with Thelma Henry Interiors. Use a large format wall tile, even 450 x 900 to have as few grout lines as possible. Porcelanosa do several pale grey tiles, Rodano Acero 80 x 80 cm, Nápoles 44 x 66 cm, and others. Paint an "old" white above to match the white of your floor tile. Make sure there's enough contrast between the paint colour and the white of the sanitary ware to avoid having the walls look dirty. Hope that's useful.

You usually start in the middle and work out towards the edges. This does require more cuts as both ends usually need to be cut. I assume you are talking behind the bath? Another option is to start with a full tile in the innermost corner and work out. Get the dimesions of the bath and work it out with the size of your tiles. Your tiler should have some ideas but don't let them take the easy way out. You have to like the finished job and live with it. If there is not an obvious way to go then sometimes it is down to individual preference. If you use the factory edge in the corner then you know it is straight.
