kitchen layout isn't working - please help!!
Comments (11)Thanks everyone for the very helpful comments and supporting pictures indeed! Some really great suggestions, thank you. The design is from Howdens joinery so it is pretty standard, and very basic and yes they've just basically ticked boxes! I will explore Kulman's kitchens at Costcos (I'm based in north east London so relatively close to one). Cost for the proposed kitchen is coming around to more than £2k, I'm not sure if this is good value (I'm told it is - I'm a first time buyer so lack experience here!) I like the idea of using dummy drawer fronts and will ask if these are available for below the sink. Space wise the room is 4.8m wide and 3.8m depth. They've done all the electrics and stuff so it looks like the kitchen will be best placed on the left. But I don't know if it is the best use of the space. I think having a peninsular run coming off the main wall (between the window and French doors) is something I will consider. Unfortunately budget is rather limited, so I wish I had asked sooner before getting my windows. I've been given a (new) washing machine and a (new) fridge as gifts and unfortunately neither are the right sizes to be properly integrated, so this isn't possible which is a big shame as they really do look out of place. However, I am glad I can at least change the colours of the worktops - I like the idea of using a light grey colour, and think this will improve the overall look. Thanks all again, I'm going to have to ponder further!...See MoreDoes this layout works
Comments (18)Hi Noa, I’m the drawing you just posted - the drawers wouldn’t work under the breakfast bar either - if you are using this software to design this yourself - you may need a bit more guidance, as the window looks to me to be bigger than on the plan - which might interrupt the gate outside ... and there’s no pillar shown in there either - which would reduce the look of the side panel that’s visible when you walk into the room....See MoreNew kitchen. Comments (15)I quite like the wooden ‘pastry bench’ although if actually needed for that purpose, marble would be better. Also, for practical use, personally think it’s too far from the sink & cooking areas. I would also be unsure about the floor, I like it but there is just something that isn’t right - as you said, maybe it just needs some copper elements in the room (handles) to pull it together. I’d keep the direction of the ‘grain’ as it is - I think it would look odd all in line but it’s worth trying it before committing....See MoreDoes this kitchen work?
Comments (22)Schmidt, I agree. Also because the traffic line between sofa and stools is rather cramped. Imagine lounging with your legs forwards, while talking to someone on the island stool and then some kids running in through that door. Personally I think I'd like my kitchen to be in the top left, next to the utility, with hob and sink in the island (and chat away with guests/family, looking out into the garden), tall cabinets with a coffee corner on the utility wall. And a spacious dining table with wide open windows onto a patio. Sofa would not be needed, for I'd look for comfy dining chairs. Sigh. Dreams. My kitchen area is 230x150cm and my utility is needed for a fridge, oven, washing machine, coats, shoes, bags and so on.. :)...See MoreVictoria
