Thanks active builders, I thought 1.8m depth for the wet area - assuming bath is 80cm wide that leaves 1m depth for the showering area, but then that only leaves 1.2m to fit basin and toilet, which I thought might be a bit tight? We don’t really want a small basin as this is the main bathroom. My other option is to have toilet and washbasin opposite each other in the 1.2m run, but then this leaves a 80cm gap between toilet and washbasin and not sure if this would look a bit cramped?

Obobble and Suzanne C, thanks for the comments. I think the idea of putting the shower and toilet along the right hand wall is a good idea. Do you think there would be room if I put the vanity unit parallel on the opposite left hand wall, rather than underneath the window? (Sorry I like the idea of having a mirror in front of me rather than the window obobble!) Also what do people think are comfortable dimensions for a spacious walk in shower? If I put the shower in the back right hand corner then I’m not tied so much by the width of the window I think as it won’t jut up next to it? Ie it could be wider that 76.5cm?

rinq good point. Here is what we have so far. Some notes: - The rest of the plan has changed slightly so I don't want to waste people's time commenting on that. I will upload our final draft in a new post when we have it for feedback on the whole plan. - The main room in question has had 1m added along the horizontal to make it 8.90m long. - We have decided we want to swap the kitchen and dining rooms. - The front door has also been removed from that back wall (the bottom of the plan) so that back wall is now doorless. The front door is now located where the word "screenshot" is conveniently located. :D Ellie good questions. The house is being designed now. The architects have suggested a room this size based on feedback we gave them. Now we have it drawn up we don't love it. For example, I hate having the back of the sofa in the way of the hallway there. I think that is terrible design. It all looks cramped to me. There are 3 of us in this home. In the plan above you can see a rectangle in the top right with the lines across it. That is a closed in porch/veranda so there is some living space there too. I would get a smallish drop-leaf table with two comfortable dining chairs for you and your roommate's eating area. I suggest no barstools - they take up too much real estate. Guests. Ask them to bring a cushion or a folding chair because you don't have enough chairs. I lived in a very tiny place and my guests were happy enough to sit on the floor - 90 minute party, max. Serve VERY good food. Separate the living and dining areas by color/style and/or an area rug for the living room that will compliment your furniture. Decorators siggest that the front legs of living room furniture be placed on the rug if the rug is too small to fit under all of the furniture. If you get a sisal rug, be sure to use a rug pad. Sisal can be like sandpaper on the wood finish of your floors. I would NOT put a rug in the kitchen. Use washable foot fatigue rubber mats instead. Best wishes.
