Hello Emma, Weathered Oak would work beautifully with your flooring to create a light airy aesthetic. Layering shades of similar colours create an interior with depth and interest. Textured materials will also help to enliven the space beautifully.. Perhaps as you have french doors linking two rooms, decorate the two rooms as one so they appear to be connected but perhaps offer dining and living room functions. Painting the french doors a lovely chalky charcoal with glass and brass door knobs makes a very beautiful frame from 1 room to the next. It also offers something visually dramatic... It could be any colour or accent colour you like.. (see below about the accessories in particular soft furnishings like curtains, cushions, throws.. as you could use this as a means to decide on door colour.. Or blend with walls.. ) A linen sofa would be lovely if and when you might consider a change.. Have a look at Loaf.com There are a lot of lovely pieces that would work... I have selected just a few that I think could be ideal for your needs that are compatible with the flooring but offer a minimal scheme that you want.. You can then add to.. Charcoal or darker grey linen cushions (also think curtains or window treatments) Wooden accessories, old silvered mirrors, woven baskets.. white washed charcoals and or grey browns... Stone colours and washed greens like sage mixed with bright mint could be lovely with a darker more vibrant green just to pick out one contrasting colour that would be lovely... Foliage would be nice too with a green element.. Ceramic vases and decorative pieces...... : )) The textured button back of this is rather nice as it offers a contrast to the below seat.. Pudding love seat one of my favourites from this company.. A movable tray table or side table... It has fabulous legs and you could paint the top if you wanted to give it more accent! Gr8 for toys! You could put a seat pad or use as a coffee table.. TV cabinet and storage... Consider wardrobes and or chest of drawers to be functional and aesthetically beautiful pieces for living rooms not just a bedroom.. Something like this could house the tv and can form an integral piece to your decor. Height plays a key role in creating a balanced room..

We would always recommend replacing original doors with timber. It would be a shame to lose the authentic look and although UPVC composite doors are much better than they used to be they still don't look like real wood. Our wood doors have the same multi point locking system as a UPVC door for high security and the U-Value (insulation) is the same. No cold drafts with our doors. Also with our Teknos paint finish you can match it to any colour you want. Farrow & Ball french grey is very popular at the moment. We recently did this custom door with bespoke stained glass. The client wanted the glass to replicate the original stained glass but wanted new seals etc so we re-designed the glazing for them and they matched the sage green paint that they had used around their home. I hope you manage to persuade your partner to either keep the original door or replace it with wood. Good Luck!

Hi, Reviving a bit of an old post here with some more thoughts. I agree with everyone that the sofa is probably best looking onto the window but having given it a try it makes the TV pretty much not visible unfortunately. I can't think of anywhere that I could place the TV that would give a good angle for the sofa in that position. (Other than pulling it out from the wall and angling it, which looked pretty poor when I tried it) Open to suggestions though. I may just have to move the sofa back a little to create slightly more room for chairs. I think if I put it right up against the wall the space will possibly be too big for conversation. In the end I've actually grown to like the eames chair and chesterfield combo so will just add one more chair now. either on the same side as the current chair or two chairs facing each other at different sides of the sofa. :) @Emily - The dinning table is further away from the kitchen in the window thats true. The alternative I think would be to shift everything up towards the bay window more and put the dinning table at the other end of the room. I think that might look a little odd since the fireplace is in the centre?
