Of course. The dimensions would depend on the size of the fireplace/burner you would be going for. The opening would have to be made of non-flammable material, such as brick, stone, metal, porcelain tiles, Vermiculite Board, etc. You could use non-flammable paint over that. For example, our freestanding baskets like the one Richard posted above need 60 cm clearance from the bottom to the top; or if you wanted a contemporary line of fire look you could go for our Regulating Bio Containers like the one in the photo below - all required dimensions are available in the brochure with building advice on our website. It is usually desirable to make the new attic stairs an equal pitch to the existing ones, however often it is necessary to increase the new upper flights pitch to avoid the window, if carried out skillfully and with a proper thought out design the stair and the space it sits in can be manipulated to enhance each other and either not impact on the available light or increase it. Unfortunately, most attic conversion companies will be looking for the fastest and most cost effective solution and a feature staircase may not fit into their scope. Often clients approach a specialist to design and make the stairs and work along side their contractor. The new flight could be designed to sit well next to the existing flight and the details like handrail and newel post of the existing could be copied so that both work together as a single entity. We're not actually having plywood underneath.. as it's not needed due to having concrete mostly, but we've got quite a hefty crack between the existing and extension so there is some repair work to be done there, and an additional screed that they need due to the type of flooring we have in part of the existing house.. I did wonder about putting an L shaped glass shower screen at the end nearest the sink, but I couldn’t find any! I’m not sure what is beyond the sink, but if there is a wall you could swop over the sink and bath so that you can have a glass shower screen (which attaches to the wall). I’ve no idea of costs for that but I did completely refurb my bathroom into a shower room and the cost, including all fittings, plasterer, plumber and tiler, was just under £6000.
