What are those countertops called? are they laminate?

I would say it looks like soapstone. A PA or PIA perhaps. But to me this looks like soapstone that has not been treated with mineral oil or wax. Treating them gives you the dark rich colors by expediting the oxidation of the stone. Or it may even have a honed finish to it.

The countertop is actually soapstone and it was provided by the same company that built the cabinets. The company is Jewett Farms + Co. They have some great info about soapstone on their website.

I think you are trying to tone with what is there but in a small space I think you need to go as light as possible. I would be looking for a nearly white granite with warmer veining such as artic white (bear in mind they are often called different things by different suppliers) I also like stone type products like Silestone

Hi all, I am looking for advice and opinions on just this question I have on countertops. So I completely gutted and we are renovating our kitchen. As you can see I have a split height island / table. We were originally going to use the same color quartz for all of the kitchen but as it turned out there was not enough for the table. So my thinking is to find a contrasting color remnant for the table. The whole kitchen is white cabinets. Looking for advice on what we should go with on the adjoined table. We also had thoughts on painting the legs and frame of the table to contrast against the cabinets. Appreciating all of your positive thoughtful ideas about only the colors of the table and top.

How to cut laminate countertop?

I see you have the old fashioned metal joining strips, so it would be possible to remove each section of worktop over the 150 units. You will also need to run a stanley knife through the silicon under the tiles. Once you have your oven in place, simply measure how much you want to cut off and then use a circular saw with a fine tooth blade, clamp a straight edge to the worktop so you have a straight cut, cut with good side down and always into the bullnose. You already have metal end caps so refit those. Have a practice first if you've never used a circular saw and when you measure you need to allow for the blade thickness and set the blade depth correctly as well. Plenty of instructions on you tube.

You just need to mop up any spillages immediately and ensure everything is sealed with laminate worktops. They are cost effective with lots of choice and still one of the best sellers. If you’re looking for a solid top try looking at Mirostone or Pietra solid surface but installation for solid tops should only be carried out by certified contractors to make sure the warranty is valid.

I agree. they're untreated soapstone. it's a beautiful material. warm & silky to the touch, it's nonporous & has a informal quality to it. it's softer than granite or quartz, but scratches & nicks can be buffed or sanded out.

they're going into our kitchen remodel, tho ours are coming from Brazil. after living with soapstone in a San Francisco Edwardian rental, I was in love.
