Solid/ Resin Countertops Advice for Laundry Room

Can anyone advise me on an affordable countertop surface for my utility room? My carpenter advises me to order a 'resin' countertop as he can cut and fit it himself ( tho when I look at resin- I"m not sure he is using the right term? ). I'm happy to go with his advise, but I can't find any suppliers or a range of choices. I'd love any advice on reliable, affordable brands. I was advised against laminate as water will likely leak into the laminate joins. being a utility room, I don't want to use expensive granites or quartz etc. It's also hard to find a place to view choices as we are in deepest, darkest Northumberland.

My sister has Dekton in her utility. Not sure of costs but she chose it as it was cheaper than the quartz in her kitchen.

We have a wood effect laminate (from B & Q I think) in our utility. It’s been there for 8 years & still looks great. Definitely no water damage despite there regularly being water all around the sink. As long as all the joints are properly sealed and a good seal around the sink, I can’t see a problem with laminate.

I must admit the colours don't really 'gel' easy for my mind. I think the brown and pink and turquoise just doesn't do it for me but I hope someone can prove me wrong. I do love white and turquoise though. You could be bold and choose to paint your island turquoise or maybe another piece of furniture in your kitchen like a dresser or table. Or maybe all the lower cabinets turquoise and upper white. Or you could restrict your pops of colour to lighting, tiles, chairs etc. I did find a nice picture of white, turquoise and lime green accents. I'll try and post the link. On the other hand if you are only keeping the tiles because you feel you *should* keep them I think it may always be all you see in your beautiful new kitchen....in my opinion haha keep them if you love them but don't try and fit a whole scheme around them if you know what I mean. Hi, here are a couple of mixed countertops examples. I like your floor. See if you can take the cabinets all the way up to the ceiling. Looks better, gives more storage space (even if you can only reach it using a stepladder). The floor doesn't limit you on the cabinet colours. See if you can take door samples home and hold them on the floor (vertically, so it shows the colour as it would be when installed). Do the same with countertop samples. Put them all together and make your choice. Or post photos and ask opinions here, if you can't make a choice at all :-) A light countertop will reflect more light, make the kitchen seem brighter. You can mix that with a dark wood. I will see if I can find one of the pro houzzers to look at your dilemma, so they can give you answers to the more technical questions. No promises, but I'll try :-)

Hi minipie, thanks for the advice... annoyingly the answer is semi solid... it's against the main partitian wall between our house and the next but on a landing so either side it's stud walls. The cupboard is tight to fit a washing machine in so no room to add extra insulation. Not exactly the best test but if I do fast feet on the landing next to the cupboard the floor doesn't shake or cause furniture in the room next door to shake (I'm not particularly light). what do you think?

I suggest finding a nice local carpenter to help with cabinets etc. They will be able to come up with imaginative ways of upgrading and using as much of your own things as possible. I had an ok but boring Magnet kitchen with laminate doors. I wanted new doors and after spending an entire morning in the local franchise of Dream Doors, they eventually refused to come out and look at my kitchen when I said that my budget was under £5k. I priced up new doors online and then found a local carpenter. When he came round, I explained what I wanted and that my real dream was to have an “in-frame” look. He laughed, told me to scrap my ideas of buying new doors and instead he made entire new fronts that look a million times better than anything I could get off the shelf. It was also a fraction of the price!! My kitchen isn’t perfect (i find it too dark. - but that’s another story and not to do with the carpenter!!) - however it’s high quality, completely bespoke and an absolute bargain! Thanks Sonia & Tamp. All really helpful. Will go and look those out. I wonder if anyone has used Fenix Bonded NTM? Looks affordable and a great matt finish

You just need to mop up any spillages immediately and ensure everything is sealed with laminate worktops. They are cost effective with lots of choice and still one of the best sellers.

If you’re looking for a solid top try looking at Mirostone or Pietra solid surface but installation for solid tops should only be carried out by certified contractors to make sure the warranty is valid.
