It's great that you have created a wildflower roof and reused the original bricks, it's very considerate of you.

Looks amazing with the Before looking like any regular home needing TLC. These kind of sites often seem to have unique houses so its hard to visualise outcomes.

How much did your work cost? How long did it take? Did you need planning permission?

Dear Buggypie, thank you for all the kind words :-).

Originally the work was planned to take 5 months but once we stripped out we found a few issues with the current foundation and structure, therefore we added a few more weeks to the contract.

The property is located in the Hampstead conservation area and planning application was required.

Over all, creating a green roof is a straightforward procedure and not costly at all. It lowers the impact on neighbouring properties from above, reduces the surface rainfall run-off, improves sound insulation, reduces heat loss & increases the life of waterproofing membranes lying at the base of the roof.

It will also provide an important microclimate for insects & bird life and contributes to the conservation area in general. However, the most important reason we suggested it is so that the client could look at a garden from the master bedroom rather than a black pondy roof.

I live in a conservation area of Georgian properties and frequently think of things i could do to extend.

My flat roof ended up with decking as it was quite large (4m x 5m) so is a second garden to the smaller patio.

I will be putting plants outside the front windows for the same reason you advise that its nicer to see life.

What a lovely transformation. I love seeing London houses renovated because they are usually terraced and period, like my own! It shows how nice large expanses of glass go with period properties. Love the meadow too, I bet the bees love it.
