Honed is a nice option for a finish, however, it comes with several negatives. I work at a countertop company so please read the following carefully before you decide. With honed material, you really have to be careful of what you place on the countertop especially with food/liquids. It will soak anything up and stain. You will also notice finger/ hand marks on your countertops because of the natural oil on your hands. Cleaning may be difficult because you cannot use just any product to clean your tops. Depending on where you purchase your countertops, be sure to ask about cleaner recommendations and maintenance information for any top that you choose regardless if it is honed or not. A better option may be a leathered finish if you do not like the polished look.
The counter looks like honed soapstone to me, not granite. Does anyone know the name of this "granite." I am in the process of renovating my kitchen and have looked everywhere for a light to medium solidish grey, and cannot find anything that looks like this...unless it's grey honed soapstone. Any advice?
If you are looking for more of a solid gray option, I would recommend Quartz. There are numerous brands such as Hanstone, Wilsonart, Caesarstone, Cambria, and others they may offer what you are looking for. Big plus to Quartz is the east maintenance.
