Is there any structural work to do, new kitchen bathroom/etc, electrics, plumbing etc or is it just decorating, furniture and maybe new floors p, soft furnishings etc? If you can give a bit more detail on what's needed then hopefully people can direct you to a starting position

My advice is try to completely finish one room before starting another. Another trick is to paint the entire house with what will be a 'base coat' of white. It then helps you to have a completely blank canvas, and will assist in choosing colour schemes. Stick to neutral tones when you come to paint for the second time ( the top coats ), and keep colours to accessories, rugs, carpets, curtains, cushions, bedding etc. By having one colour throughout or just a set of colours from the same palette, it helps the house flow from room to room.

You can always post on here room to room as you go, there are so many people with great free advice and ideas, it's like one big happy family!

Yes definitely do one room at a time and if it's in budget painting the whole house white initially is a good idea. Depending on your taste you can go neutral or colours that complement each other. Choose a few colours or shades of the same colour etc and add feature walls and complementary accent colours for each room. You also need to consider the orientation of the room as to what colours will work best. In terms of the darker side of the house consider whether you want to embrace the dark or lighten the rooms up (consider what time of day the room is used too). You can lighten/warm with warm colours or neutrals, mirrors (and any other reflective surface) and artificial lighting. Installing transoms over the doors may also be a consideration. Wood floors typically bounce light if varnished etc (or other reflective surfaces) whereas carpet even in light colours obviously just sucks light in although light colours will help. It would be good to see the windows in question for suggestions. Sorry that's a bit of a general response but maybe start with one room at a time and everyone can make suggestions to help

I can see you've got Middleton pink in your ideabook. You could also look at setting plaster shown here or peignoir. Either of those maybe teamed with grey sofas or accents may be more agreeable with your husband :) . If the curtains are hung properly they should block very little light but it would be good to see what the Windows look like

P.S I have used window film and find that really depends on the brand that you use but it can be a great way to get what you want to achieve.
