Sealing encaustic tiles

Hi - We have new encaustic tiles installed and the tiler allowed builders to walk on them straight after being sealed. They now look dirty and can't be cleaned. Is it possible to unseal, clean and reseal?

That's not good! What does the builder offer, it's their problem to rectify!

Recommended cleaning products are ‘Synperonic A’ and ‘Vulpex’ spirit soap’, available from conservation suppliers, or ‘HG Extra’, ‘HG grease remover’, or ‘BAL Ceramic Floor Tile Cleaner’ available from good tile suppliers.

Use Bellatrix before grouting and, after grouting, clean with a PH Neutral Cleaner or wipe with a dry microfibre cloth. After grouting, once floor is completely dry, apply another coat of Bellatrix and, if desired, a coat of wax such a Cera Noble Liquida.

Have a word with your builder to see if he has the expertise to rectify this problem or if he will underwrite somebody else!

As part of our renovation we replaced all wood covered plastic sills with flush oak cuts. If you have particular oak furniture I'd copy that onto the sills. As mentioned above, cut to size and use adhesive to fit the sills

Normally, ceramic floor tiles do not need to be sealed. But the supplier should be able to give you manufacturer's information and recommendations. However, if you do decide to seal the tiles, (as the tiles seem to look matt), make sure that you use something that doesn't leave a shine on the tile otherwise, it will entirely change the look of the flooring or vice versa (in case I have the finish wrong). It sounds like movement, either from the underfloor heating heating/cooling or the substrate. Is the grout between the tiles also cracked?

We had laid an encaustic tile floor in the bathroom and after 1 year it has developed a long crack going through at least 6 tiles. It is over underfloor heating. Could anyone tell me the possible reason?
