What to do with my non-functioning fireplace?
Comments (12)The simplest way to cure the problem if boxing the pipes isn't an option all around is to get a plumber to put 90 degree bends either side of the fireplace and drop the pipes under the floor at those points. This now leaves the whole fireplace area free and flush. ( You will need to remove the mantel though ). You can then build pretty much anything infront of it. I'd use MDF, it's cheap and it's easy to cut into whatever shape you like. I've done you a really simple mock up. Good luck xx...See MoreMidcentury modern: is it over and, if so, what's next?
Comments (20)As with all schools of art and design, we can find good and bad examples. Good design is generally related to usability and relationship of the building to it's locality and climate, if the aesthetic of the building lifts the spirit, ages with grace and is able to reflect the character of its inhabitants - then I suggest you can start to talk about good design. 'Whats next'? I think with increasingly challenging sites, and the evidence that current modern society is not proving advantageous for mental health (there is a mental health epidemic in the UK, depression higher than ever and the leading cause of death for young men being suicide) I am working for a future where design focuses on what it can do to help people access the causes of wellbeing, lift the spirit and encourage positive relationship and community building. Architecture has been ego/profit-centric for too long, we need to invest in environments that help us live well, are able to reflect who we are and contribute to building healthy relationships, families and communities....See MoreKitchen Design Help - Form over Function?
Comments (10)Hi, I prefer the symmetry of the stack ovens/ microwave with equal number of units on wither sides. Alternatively, if you would like both at the same height and the warming drawer higher up id consider having one appliance on unit 2 and one on unit 4, just so theres an equal balance and spread. All the best...See MoreUse of tiles for different room function
Comments (5)That's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question! Using the same tile can work well to join spaces and bring a natural flow to them; using different ones can delineate and separate areas or spaces, and there are no end of ways of combining both principles. Really depends on the space and what you want to achieve. If your question relates to a specific space and dilemma, post a bit more info, and no doubt the helpful Houzzers will have plenty of advice!
