Will changes in flooring look too 'bitty'?

We're about to start building an extension which will house large living room/garden room, and a smaller dining area linking it onto the present kitchen (which will be totally refurbished) and are currently wondering about flooring.

I want to have tiles in the kitchen, and considered having them all the way through, but we think it would look too cold in winter months (NE Scotland) If we tile kitchen and use engineered wood in living area, what happens to the dining area, which will also have doors into garden?

Also, how do we handle the change in materials without it looking bitty? There's no change in levels, and there will be underfloor heating throughout.

Help, please!
