pendant lights from the ceiling
Comments (4)Hi Jamie The first image definitely looks fiddly to install and to finish the ceiling as it appears there isn't a plate on the ceiling . However the second image shows something easier with a plate ceiling plate for neatness. The Davide Groppi Miss 2 Led is a good example of this same installation. Another way might be the use of tiny plates or jack points like the Bocci 14.1 which has a 29mm ceiling plate . This is of course not viable for all pendants so you will need do a bit of research to find one that matches you taste and application. Good luck with the research....See MoreHelp please! Faulty Delta Membrane system installed in our basement
Comments (4)hi Alison, it is unlikely that the system can hold back water and over spill to the floor above. it looks to me like the membrane was finished at a high level and not taken further up the wall. As the room is a basement water will travel through brickwork through capillary action and you probably have damp on the wall in the ground floor of the property. unless you have running water going into the basement the system that was installed can work. it is not always necessary to have a full sump system when using the membrane. I'm not sure what the ground floor area at this is like, but it may be you have a problem with rainwater at ground level. check the drainage and ensure that you have water flowing away from the property. possibly add a aco type drain against the front of the house to collect water and run it to a drain. check that you dont have broken gullet, but dont do anything until you have these itnes checked as it is a cheaper solution. if you have to install a sump, you can do this without installing a perimeter drainage and it will still work as the water will find the lowest point. Get a reputable company to look at the work done. it may be better to employ a surveyor to carry out a thorough inspection and report. companies tend to want to opt for their work to replace what could be fixed. I hope this helps!! Rowland...See MoreBasement extension near plum tree - advice
Comments (2)Thanks Sonia. We would probably like to remove it if we weren’t concerned about the fact that removing a tree can cause the soil where the roots were to expand with water where the roots once removed it. This could impact our existing foundations but even worse our neighbour’s. So really if we can prune the tree and its roots in some sensible way to facilitate the project we are planning that would help. We already declare the tree for insurance purposes so not really an new issue there....See MoreRenovation Costs inc basement lowering
Comments (4)I've renovated six houses and I would be loathe to do a full renovation again due to current costs. I used to estimate what things would cost and was usually pretty accurate. I know now that in some (not all) areas, trades are costing jobs at hugely overinflated prices just to put people off. The problem is that with working from home, wealthy cash buyers are buying houses at inflated prices in all areas and trades are cashing in on the wealth. It's not the case everywhere but it's getting to the point in some areas where the foorprint is the only thing that matters as extensions can be out of the question....See More- 9 years ago
