I want to have a sink, dish washer , counter top 4 burner cooker hobb , cooker hood , 1 gas oven, 1 micro oven ( 42 litre ) and a refrigerator ( width 37", height 6'-6" ). I want to have a beautiful kitchen with tall ( may be double ) upper cabinets , comfortably placed lower cabinets and granite counter top. I would prefer dark Mahagony for cabinets. No there is no other openings or closets. I want to remodel the total interior layout of my kitchen. If possible try to include a small island . Waiting for everybody to help .

Hi Laura, You've received many suggestions and some have been quite good. Particularly useful are the photos above of the French pied a terre with the slim line cabinets on one side. If you need somewhere to eat, you can swap the table and chairs for a bar and stools with slim cabinets either side. And don't worry about losing the panel radiator. Your plumber can install a hydronic plinth heater that connects into your central heating. I think the key to your colour scheme should start with your new cooker. Have you considered beige cabinet doors in high gloss? They would make your range look integrated and help reflect light around the room. Polished black granite (or laminate) worktop will pick up the black trim on the cooker. The arched lower door of the cooker points toward a more traditional or transitional look for a cooker hood (black) or an integrated hood. Beige and black tiles would keep the walls of the working area scrubbable. Look at metro tiles for a high gloss finish or patchwork tiles for some retro designs. Lastly, change over to LED lighting with warm white lamps. Avoid harsh white light overhead, but don't forget worktop lighting. Good luck and have fun.

I'm with the people who say your fireplace should stay. I suspect it's the way it's currently presented that has put you off. Your idea of the Hague blue is lovely and would complement the warmth of the tiling on the fireplace. Keep it simple and paint the wood fire surround in white for a crisp finish. (And if you don't like it that way, you can either change the colour or the surround - whichever your budget will allow! ) Are you keeping the dado? It would look crisp painted white with your Hague blue covering the walls. Or you might like to paper below and paint the blue above it, as Tracy Metro does. Have a look online while the new series of House Doctor is still available to see her design tricks. Not always my cup of tea, but the effects are stunning and it's always helpful for inspiration!

Narrow houses are always tricky, and long narrow spaces need particular care. I think that putting the kitchen centrally makes sense, but I think that the kitchen island is far too big, and dominates the whole space. It also cuts the space in half, creating a sense of 3 small spaces crammed together, rather than the open-plan room you might be aiming for. My suggestion would be to shorten the island by 600mm, push it against the wall as a simpler run of kitchen worktop, and have a smaller peninsula unit at the living room end with space for a couple of stools. I'd put storage under the stairs, and include the washing machine if possible to free up more of the kitchen.
