I never thought we'd need a second fridge as we have a large American Fridge Freezer but, due to a cost saving exercise, the NHS have decided that I have to have my medications (injections) delivered once every 3 months now instead of monthly which means that I can take up half an under counter Fridge just for my meds. We had no choice but to put an extra fridge in the garage. It is handy though, especially at Christmas time.

Having looked through your idea book, I would say that 70 percent of the pictured have a similar style to them, broadly speaking. Warmer tones, some darker wood / walnut, many of them handleless. As a next step, I would go back to all the pictures and write down the elements that appeal to you, and be quite specific. If there is one picture that stands out to you as having the right overall balance you can use this as a template when planning your kitchen, even if for example it has shaker doors, but you might want handleless. You also need to consider how the kitchen will look against existing elements in the room, and things you might be planning for the living area. Then consider the practical elements, ie pros and cons of different doors, finishes, worksurfaces etc. Some of this will depend on your circumstances, do you cook a lot, want easy to clean etc? There's lots of articles on Houzz covering that kind of thing. Budget will also play a big part. For my part, I went with a handless German kitchen, with a matt finish with a quartz worktop. I cook a lot and have found this combination very easy to keep clean.

Morning, Karen! ...you had to ask the uncomfortable (to answer) question!!! :)) Yes, we have an utility room and there's plenty of space there, however that's in the basement and - shame on us :( - we don't want to carry his stuff up and down the stairs 2-3 times a day. We already bought a freezer to hold the 15kg of frozen minced turkey (the only meat he tolerates) we buy from a supplier out of town, every 2 weeks. We thought of feeding him down there but, for reasons known only by him, Iggy adamantly refuses to step on the stairs to the basement. We tried lots of things, including bringing a dog trainer to help us get him down there... nope, the little* beast would just not do it. The main reason for insisting he'd come down was not for food, but rather temperature - it's a constant 18C in the basement and would be ideal for him to stay down there when it gets too hot outside. *We call him 'little' because the trainer said Iggy's the smallest Bernese Mountain dog she's ever seen.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. Man about the House - you're correct, bigger freezer will mean I'll end up buying more food that I don't need and then freezing it and I'll never see it again! I've always had a very small fridge freezer and I think that is the reason why we hardly waste any food as we only buy what we can fit in the fridge. The final size of the room including 3m rear extension will be 7.5m long 5m wide but the kitchen part will only go up to 4m max in length ( if I go for L shape with island ) Emily - yes planning on having a modern kitchen Jonathon - my husband likes the look of them but not bothered about filtered water/ ice dispenser. I find them very narrow inside. I do like the french door style ones but again they are bulky too and very expensive!
