Wow TWO YEARS LATER and I've just solved my old but lovely furniture problem. It's all gone to the Museum of Work at Bath! Even the bentwood chairs (not Thonet!) which need work, was willingly taken because they have a volunteer cabinet maker there. I'm over the moon about this so thanks to Stuart who runs the museum and who took them. But guess what, he only lives 5 doors down from me! 5 doors in 25 months that's 5 months per house, amazing how long it's taken us to get to know the neighbours! Thanks also to everyone who came up with ideas on what to do with them.

If you go for a quartz or other solid surface, then any fabricator should be able to do a table for you. You need to face the back with something, we used mdf when we did it, and attach legs of your choice. In laminate you would need to buy a breakfast bar type top and use edging strips on the ends, so would have width limitations.

@Patrina, I’m into my cars and one thing I wanted was a decent size garage to be able t work on them too, I remember when I seen the outline in lime on the ground I immediately added another meter both ways as it looked too small! glad i did as it gave me a decent space to work in :-) I’ve a large air compressor, hydraulic car lift, it’s even painted, floored and pics with spotlights over them! Lol I’m so sad!
